Our mission is to promote a thriving stonemasonry industry in New Zealand
The NZSMA is the official nationwide body representing the stonemasonry industry in New Zealand.
In 2012, leading stonemasons from around New Zealand met for the first time to establish the NZSMA.
The mission that we established at that first meeting remains unchanged to this day.
We want to promote high quality stonemasonry through maintaining quality standards and education. We work with our members, government, education providers and the construction industry to achieve this.
We encourage, and invite all NZ stonemasons and stone industry suppliers to join us in setting the standard for the future of our craft.

We will connect you with a local stone supplier as well as a skilled, vetted and qualified craftsperson to ensure that your stonemasonry project is a success.
By educating our audiences on the benefits of using stone
Stone is one of the oldest and most beautiful building materials, and New Zealand has a wealth of natural stone available for construction.
Through pursuit of excellence in professional standards
We want to ensure apprentices and stonemasons have the skills and knowledge required to succeed and to build safe, sound and beautiful stonework.
Through the advancement and improvement of practises and systems
Ensuring that the highest standard of workmanship and design is the baseline for New Zealand stonework.
By establishing the NZSMA as the authority on stonemasonry for the advancement of the industry as a whole
Offering up to date industry advice, expert testimony and a comprehensive source of technical information to councils, architects, builders, specifiers and the general public.
